FASD Adult Support Group Success!
Each month, Canopy’s FASD Program hosts a dedicated Adult Support Group where participants can connect, learn, and feel understood in a space tailored to their needs. This month, we spoke with James, one of our long‑time group members. Known for his thoughtful presence and experience, James reflects on what the group means to him, why FASD‑specific support matters, and how the community he’s found here has become an important part of his routine.
Here’s what James shared with us.
What is the role of the FASD Adult Group?
James: I find my role in the group somewhat like an old hand. Each member brings different parts of the spectrum. I find being an elder in the group and listening and grasp where they are coming from. It is an amazing group compared to others. Support for FASD is unique because it addresses a disability with a multi-disciplinary approach
What is the importance of the group, to you?
James: The importance of the group is right in its name. It focuses on one aspect of support, being FASD and the leaders are well trained.
The trainers. When groups have a broad focus, it does not fit all. With this group, its core focus is on FASD and they know each one of our highs and lows. They can provide the External Brain and reset better than just throwing a mix bowl of complex diagnoses.
What is your favourite part of the group?
James: My favourite part is having a secure environment and the array of support, community and the space to be able to be yourself.
Any worries that you have regarding the group?
James: I worry a lot around June when it is the last group before summer. The trepidation of FASD Adult Group not coming back or what shall I do if funding is not granted. The monthly group is a focus and important aspect in my routine. I don’t do well or feel groups work except FASD Adult group. It is a warm, welcoming, inviting enhancement in my life.
A heartfelt thank‑you to James for sharing his insight and experiences with us. His honesty, wisdom, and contributions continue to enrich the FASD Adult Support Group, and we’re grateful for the perspective he brings to our community.

BCS March Break Camp
What an incredible week at our BCS March Break Camp!
From March 16–20, we welcomed children ages 4–8 for five mornings filled with play, learning, and connection—and we couldn’t be happier with how the week unfolded.
Our campers dove into interactive games, creative play‑based activities, outdoor fun, and small‑group experiences designed to build communication and social skills. Whether they were practicing turn‑taking, exploring imaginative play, or gaining confidence in new group settings, each child brought their own spark to the week.
A huge thank‑you to our amazing facilitators for creating a warm, inclusive environment where every child could learn, grow, and shine—and to all the families who joined us for this memorable March Break.

Land Acknowledgment
In recognition of and respect for Indigenous People and their territory both in the past and the present. It is with a clear and open heart, mind and body that we at Canopy Support Services acknowledge that we are located on the traditional territory of the Mississauga Anishinaabeg (ANISH-AN-AW-BE) and Chippewa (CHIP-EH-WA) Nations. We honor these communities as the original and current stewards’ and caretakers of this land and water ensuring their health for future generations while teaching us about our relations to the earth. The land we reside upon is situated within the Williams Treaty (1923) and Treaty 20 (1818). We are dedicated to honoring Indigenous history and culture and committed to moving forward in the spirit of reconciliation and respect with all First nation, Metis and Inuit people. We respect these communities’ strength and resiliency and together we hold space for the ones who came before us and the generations to follow us in our path to truth and reconciliation.
